Westwind SOTR Paras Starter set - first squad

This is the first completed squads of Westwind's Weird War 2 British Paratroopers.
All five are armed with Assault Brens and are wearing body armour.

One of the problems with airborne assaults is a lack of heavier firepower. These Paras are being backed up by an M5A6 Jackal.
I have not quite finished with the Jackal yet.

Westwind Stug Mech part two

So, as I mentioned the Westwind Stugmech had the feet attached to a base. I cut them off with a razor saw. I drilled through the hole in the foot to take the locating pin.
To attach the hip joint, I drilled through the ball joint out through the outer part of the leg. As you can see I have pushed a brass rod through to demonstrate. I then removed the rod and placed the hip joint against the pelvis sockets. I then drilled through from the outside. This was then used to pin the hip joint. The foot was then placed in position on the ankle ball joint and again drilled through from the underside, pinned and glued,
Once one leg was in place, the other leg was pinned at the hip and the foot attached to match.

Warlord K47 M5A5/6 Jackal Walker - construction

So I have started building the Warlord Games M5 Jackal walker for Konflikt '47 Weird War 2 system.

I decided to pin the legs to ensure they remained in place. I estimated the centre point on sockets for the legs and drilled a 1mm hole to take a brass rod. I then drilled a matching hole in the ball joint of the top of the leg. I then used a loop of greenstuff (with a small piece in the holes) and a brass rod to pin it together.
That was then left to set. William Killian for scale.
The greenstuff was not sticky enough on one leg, and I had to superglue it back in.

The arms were just glued in place as was the hand/claw pieces. The rear part of the body (with the arms attached) was then added to the front parts (with the legs).
I had not added the pieces to the legs (thrusters?) and unfortunately there is no room to get them in place.
There is a marked gap between the front and rear halves of the body, which will need filling.

There is an annoying join through one of the panels, which shows a lack of thought in the way the body was split for moulding.

Warlord K47 M5A5/6 Jackal Walker

On the Lead Adventures forum someone asked about the size of the Coyote Walker.

I do not have a Coyote, but I do have the jump capable Jackal which I understand is derived from the Coyote.
William Killian, a Domari trooper and a K47 Galahad Armoured Infantryman.
It is held together by blutack and is leaning against the liquid poly bottle.

Now I have found it, I might as well start assembly. I just need to find a base.

Here is the box and contents.

Automated Infantry - weapon system.

Way back when I bought a pair of British Automated Infantry from the Clockwork Goblin sub stand at Salute.

For various reasons I have not got round to build them.

A thread on the Lead Adventures forum was discussing weapon choices for the Automated Infantry.

Here are some comparisons:

First, here are the components (the components of the current Warlord Games version may differ).
The weapons (Vickers' medium machine gun and a US M2 HMG.
Now, to me they look rather large, so the following is a comparison between the Automated Infantry weapons and other versions of the same weapon from a different manufacturer, in this case an HMG and a MMG from Empress Miniatures.
So at the top, you can see the HMG from an Empress M113 model., at the bottom is a Carton Loyd MMG carrier.

In the depths of my spare sprue drawer I found an Italeri 1/35 modern weapon sprue with an M2 HMG.
It is clear the Automated Infantry weapon is slightly smaller.

Now, a quick measure shows the M2 is about 35mm long, which at 1/56 is 1960mm

Now Wikipedia says the length is 1654mm, which gives a calculated scale ~1/47, so it is probably 1/48.

The Vickers is about 25mm, Wikipedia gives a length of 1120mm, which makes it about 1/45.

M8 Grizzly Medium Walker

Clockwork Goblin Miniatures had their new range of 28mm War Without End figures and vehicles at Salute this year.

One of the models was the M8 Grizzly Medium Walker. Rules for incorporating the walker into Bolt Action games are available as a download on their website (it is classified as a Walker, Light Tank equivalent armour - all round, armed with a medium anti-tank gun).

The M8 Grizzly Medium Walker is supplied as a mixed resin and white metal kit.
The resin pieces are cleanly cast, with very limited mould feeds. As can be seen above, there are feeds on the shoulders and the hip joints. It was not until I examined the picture that I realised that the gun mantlet was not in the picture.
The only major work was to widen the turret hatch openings and make the hatches a slightly smaller diameter so the hatches were nearly flush.

The hip joints were pinned, and a circle of milliput provided a secure joint. The dark areas are where I painted the inside of the vision slits and parts of the body.
The walker compares well in size with the M4 Sherman tank from Warlord Games.
William Killan for scale. I should have been more careful removing the mould feed on the shoulder.
Warlord Games BEF infantry man.

A quick comparison between the M100 Comanche light walker from Westwind (SOTR).

The model will be finished as a Lend Lease vehicle in British service (as will the Comanche) when I get round to it.

Some additional shots of an undercoated M8 with an M4 for comparison.
