Crooked Dice Straw Man finished

I have just finished the Crooked Dice Straw Man from their Children of the Fields Folk Horror range.

Shown here with a Great War Miniatures British ammunition carrier.
The figure was pinned to a Renedra 50mm round base.
The figure was first undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black. The figure was then sprayed with TT Combat Bone.
The base was painted with Humbrol Dark Earth 29.
The eye "sockets" were painted first with Humbrol matt White 34, followed by Citadel Warpstone Glow.
The figure was then shaded with Citadel Agrax Earthshade.
Bones on the figure were highlighted with Citadel Morgahst Bone.
It was then dry brushed with Citadel Terminatus Stone.
Certain parts were then re-shaded with Citadel Agrax Earthshade.

The Straw Man faces off against an LK-II.

Debris of War Command Tent

At SELWG I bought a Command Tent from Debris of War. It is on a Products For Wargamers small terrain base.

After chamfering the edges of the base, the tent was held in place while holes were drilled in from the bottom through the base into the tent. These holes were then used to pin the tent to the base, the whole lot being glued together with superglue. Woodland Scenics fine cinder ballast was applied with PVA glue on the ground surface.

The underside of the base and the top surface were undercoated with Halfords Grey primer. The top was painted with Colour Forge Trench Brown. The ground surface was then given a coat of Humbrol Dark Earth 29.
The pegs were painted with Army Painter Skeleton Bone, then dry brushed with Citadel Tyrant Bone.
The ties were painted with Citadel Karak Stone. The whole thing was washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade.

It is going to be used as a command tent for A War Transformed, however it is suitably generic and can be used in a number of periods.

Crooked Dice Straw Man

The Crooked Dice Straw Man with William Killian and a Great War Miniature British soldier for scale.

I might count him as a Processional, offering a morale boost in close combat.

Crooked Dice "Cunning Man" for A War Transformed

One of the options to command His Majesty's forces in A War Transformed is The Cunning Man.

Who is the person that would spring to mind?

Crooked Dice have pack of Heroes (Heroes 9) with a suitable figure for a war weary Cunning Man.

The figure is supplied with a tab for a slotta base, so this was cut off and filed flat. A hole was drilled in one boot and the figure was pinned to a Renedra 25mm base.
Base coated with Citadel Chaos black.
The trousers were painted with Citadel Steel Legion Drab.
The jacket and spats were painted with Army Painter Leather Brown. The boots themselves were painted with Citadel Dryad Bark.
The waistcoat was Citadel Death Korp Drab and the scarf Citadel Mephiston Red.
The jacket, trousers and spats were highlighted with their respective colours lightened with Army Painter Stone Golem.
Army Painter Stone Golem was used for the buttons on the spats, waistcoat and the photonic spanner.
The business end of the spanner had Citadel Warpstone Glow applied.
The hair was also Army Painter Stone Golem.
The belt and cross belt was Citadel Mournfang Brown.
The brown bits had Citadel Agrax Earthshade applied. The spanner and the hair had a Citadel Nuln Oil was added. The mouth had to be cleared of the wash.
Citadel Reikland Fleshshade wasapplied to the skin (base coated with Citadel Bugman's Glow and highlighted with Citadel Kislev Flesh).
Here is the Cunning Man and two infantry.

Now this is not the last Cunning Man to grace this army, as there is another figure in the pack that might (re)visit The Great War (monocle or not).

Also, though they may not have received the vote, there is no reason the Cunning Man post cannot be filled by a woman with a family history of service in the armed services. That might lead to an interesting selection for a witch figure as well.

Great War Miniatures British officer.

The second Great War Miniatures figure for A War Transformed is an officer armed with a revolver.

This is from the same Command and Support pack as the Lewis Gun Assistant.

The figure was undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black spray.
It was then base painted with Army Painter Leather brown spray.
I then gave it another coat of Army Painter Leather brown by brush to try to tone down the shine.
The covered helmet is Citadel DeathForest Green.
The water bottle are Citadel Death Korp Drab.
The puttees and mask  are Citadel Steel Legion Drab.
Gloves, pouches, holster and all the "webbing" is Citadel Mournfang Brown

Hose and respirator pack are Citadel Rakarth Flesh.
Metalwork is Vallejo Black Grey.
The Leather Brown was tidied up and then highlighted with a mix of Leather brown and Army Painter Stone Golem. Some darker shading was added to the edges of the jacket and under the arms.

The mask lenses were painted Humbrol matt white, then Citadel Aethermatic Blue was applied.

It still needs to be washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade and Citadel Camoshade, though I might change the shading wash for the jacket.

Here is the officer and an unpainted Witch.
She was originally built as a Shadow and Bone style Squaller using components from the Frostgrave Soldiers 2 and Wizards 2 sprues, hence the windswept hair.

Great War Miniatures British Lewis Gun Assistant

Having been disappointed with the Wargames Atlantic Great War British, I ordered a number of Great War Miniatures figure packs from North Star.

One of the packs was B017 British Command in Gas Masks.

This is the Lewis gun assistant

The figure was undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black spray.
It was then base painted with Army Painter Leather brown spray.
I then gave it another coat of Army Painter Leather brown by brush to try to tone down the shine.
The helmet and water bottle are Citadel Death Korp Drab.
The puttees, mask and gloves are Citadel Steel Legion Drab.
Webbing, packs, Lewis gun ammo packs are Citadel Snot Womble Green, highlighted with Citadel Snotling Green Layer.
Hose and respirator pack are Citadel Rakarth Flesh.
Metalwork is Vallejo Black Grey.
Woodwork is Citadel Catachan Flesh.
The Leather brown was tidied up and then highlighted with a mix of Leather brown and Army Painter Stone Golem.

The mask lenses were painted Humbrol matt white, then Citadel Aethermatic Blue was applied.

It still needs to be washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade and Citadel Camoshade.

Wargames Atlantic Great War British

So the next addition from Wargames Atlantic is the Great War British.

The box is double depth to accommodate the six sprues.
Each sprue builds five figures, two standing and one kneeling.
There are sufficient heads on each sprue to build all of them with helmets, helmets with gas masks, helmets with covers, pith helmets, and caps.
An interesting design decision is that, contrary to current practice, most of the rifles are separate. Each rifle is paired with a left arm but there does appear to be a shortage of right arms.

There is one Lewis gun and an assortment of ammunition.

German Infantryman for A War Transformed

As mentioned previously, I had picked up a box of Wargames Atlantic Great War Germans for use in the forthcoming Osprey Games "A War Transformed".

North Star published an article about painting World War 1 figures for A War Transformed which I found useful.

The figure is based on a Rendra 25mm round base, smoothed in with Milliput and a layer of Woodland Scenics fine cinder ballast added over PVA glue.
It was undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black spray. For painting a lot of them, I will probably give them a sprayed base coat of either Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey or Army Painter Uniform Grey. For this single figure it was painted with Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey. This was highlighted with a mix of Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey and Army Painter Stone Golem.
The gloves and mask are Citadel Steel Legion Drab.
The rifle wood work, grenade handle and parts of the entrenching tool are Citadel Rhinox Hide.
The pouches, belt and boots are Citadel Dryad Bark.
The Bread Bag was Citadel Tarth Flesh.
The helmet was first painted Citadel Zandri Dust, then patches of Citadel Rhinox Hide and Citadel Death World Forest were added.
Metal work (rifle, bayonet and grenade head) were painted Vallejo Black Grey then dry brushed with Army Painter Stone Golem.
The lens surrounds of the gas mask were given a re coat of Vallejo Black Grey, then the lenses were first filled with Humbrol Matt White then Citadel Warpstone Glow.
Everything was given a light dry brush with Citadel Terminatus Stone.
The mask, helmet, boots, gloves, bread bag and woodwork was given a wash of Citadel Agrax Earthshade/

The photographs were taken fairly early in the morning and had a distinct bluish cast that was corrected via software, some untreated photographs are below.
