Shadow War - Armageddon Beastman Kill team part 2

So, first the Beastman Leader has had a head transplant. I replaced the previous head with one of the larger heads.

You can see the plastic rods I have fixed to the line of the figures spine before I apply some greenstuff.
The next two are basic Beastman troopers.
I need to clean up the inside of one of the horns.

Another two members of the team.

The unit so far.

Shadow War - Armageddon Beastman Kill team

More years ago than I can remember, Games Workshop had an opening sale at their new shop in Bristol. At that time they would have offers such as three for the price of two. At the Bristol opening, I bought two boxes of plastic Catachan Imperial Guard and a box of three Sentinel walkers.

Over the years I have whittled the forty Imperial Guard down to ten unassembled miniatures. I was not deeply impressed with the over muscled nature of the sculpts (they are bigger than wombles).

I also bought at some time a Warhammer Chaos Beastman Regiment.

At some point on the Lead Adventures Forum someone asked if anyone had a use for the Catachan plastics.

So I dug out the Catachan and Beastman sprues to build a Beastman Kill Team.

This is the Beastman leader. The Catachan legs and arms are as supplied. The neck hole was widened and part of the collar removed to allow the Beastman head to fit.
I will be adding some greenstuff to add some hair to the torso and arms.

Ainsty Salesman Kit

Ainsty Salesman Kit is a set of pots, pans and suitcases scaled to 28mm.

Here they are sitting on a Rubicon T34/85.

Various vehicles

Some photographs of 28mm vehicles, mainly work in progress.

Anvil Industries Cobra APC.
Complete, but only undercoated.
Warlord Games Bolt Action GMC.
Antenocitis Workshop Hunchback APC (without its turret).
 Antenocitis Workshop All Terrain vehicle.
This is missing some of the detail features.

T34/85 continues...

A few more bits added to the model.

The fuel cans have been added to the right side of the tank.
A clearer photograph of the stowage box on the turret bustle.

I have had this Rubicon T34/85 sitting (partially built) on my "To-Do" table for a while.

Various factors have caused it to be looked over (I do not really have a use for it, and I have thought about using it for post war conflicts across the world) and also I was looking for some inspiration.

A while back I bought the T34 NVA book from Tankograd (NVA is Nationalen Volks Armee, the army of the East Germany).

On page 31 there is a rear view of a T34/85 stacked high with stowage (something that tends to be missing from most photographs of T34s - well property is theft).

So having found all the bits I began to think about what needed to be done.

If you have seen this model previously on the blog, you will have seen that it has previously had hand rails added to the turret. One of the features of the NVA tanks is a large box on the turret bustle, this will of course cover the previously added hand rail.

I looked through my stock of bits, and decided to use one of the tool boxes from the Rubicon German Stowage set. It is not an accurate model of the NVA addition, but is square (or rectangular - you know what I mean).

Having added hand rails to the turret, I decided to add some to the hull.
I used a Bill Bedford Models hand rail bending jig to make the hand rails and the holes in the hull.
I bought mine at a model railway show many years ago, they are available on the Internet.

One of the distinctive features is the Notes light on the glacis and its brush shield.
A 1.5mm hole was drilled in the glacis and a piece of 1.5mm plastic rod was pushed through and cut horizontally. A piece of 2mm by 0.8mm plastic strip was cut and shaped as the top of the light.

The brush guard was made from 0.7mm brass rod, again holes were drilled for the rod which was bent using the jig.

The Walking Dead - Andrea Booster: Amy

Andrea's sister Amy does not have many pages of the first volume of the Walking Dead. Maybe she will last longer in All Out War?

Like the previous walker, her base is decorated with an open cardboard box and a couple of bricks. The box is made from Evergreen square section plastic tube with a lid made of Evergreen plastic strip.
The sweat shirt is Humbrol Violet Grey, the shorts and socks Citadel Daemonette hide. The hair is Army Painter bleached bone.

Empress Miniatures Carden Loyd MMG carrier

The Carden Loyd carrier was a light tracked armoured vehicle developed in the 1930s

The Empress kit is very simple, comprising the hull in resin and the tracks and crew heads in white metal. There was very little flash, though there is mould marks around some of the rivets. The bodies of the crew and the interior are rather basic. It is also missing the distinctive tripod on the glacis (though the crew could fire the Vickers mounted on the vehicle, it also carried a tripod for more static defence).
As this vehicle is for use in Operation Sealion games, I decided that the abundance of ammunition which is a feature of British forces in that period would be represented by plenty of ammunition boxes. One of the Rubicon Allied large ammunition boxes was fitted to the glacis (a rack was added round the boxes using Slaters Microstrip).

The tripod from the Rubicon SDKFZ 250/253 was trimmed to fit on the glacis.

The model was assembled except for the crew heads. The main part was undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black (as were the heads still on their sprue). The body was then sprayed with Citadel Caliban Green (Dark Angel Green for the older amongst you).
The centre two boxes from a Rubicon large ammunition set (left over from the removal of the outer boxes for the Churchill) also fitted into one of the stowage boxes over the right hand track.
A large roll was added over the back (which might get a bit hot as it is over the engine compartment),
A Bolt Action British infantry Spade was added to the side of the hull. The stowage box on the left hand side was covered with green stuff to form another tarpaulin.
This is a tiny vehicle, dwarfed even by the diminutive FT tank.
It needs the bridging weight and unit marks to be added and final weathering.

Perry Miniatures Kubelwagen

As part of the Africa Korp unit, I bought a Perry Miniatures Kubelwagen.

The model is one large resin casting (complete with all four wheels and the spare) plus white metal castings for the two man crew, steering wheel and folded down canopy.

The model is notably smaller than the Warlord Games one (bottom).
I put a rolled up tarpaulin in front of the windscreen and added some green stuff to the canopy.

I undercoated it with Citadel Chaos Black spray, followed up with Citadel Zandri Dust. The tyres were painted with Vallejo Black Grey. The spade blade is Vallejo Black, the handle Citadel Mournfang Brown.

The body was washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade, the tyres with Citadel Nuln Oil. I missed one of the wheel hubs.
Decals are from the Rubicon SDKFZ 250/253 kit.
The canopy and the tarpaulin were painted with Humbrol 237.

Ainsty Containers - part one

Ainsty has a boxed set of three ISO style containers, I have been buying a box at shows over the recent years to build up a number of them.

They measure up approximately at 42mm high, by 39mm wide by 98mm long. This makes them approximately 1/62 scale (traditionally 28mm scale is 1/56 - it is however about 25mm scale).

A full size 20 foot container has the dimensions of 2591mm high, by 2438mm wide by 6058mm long (scaling to 46mm by 43mm by 108mm at 1/56).

Here is one with William Killian for scale.

After undercoating with Halfords' grey primer, this one was masked and sprayed with Citadel Incubi Darkness. It was masked again and given a final spray coat of Halfords Red Primer.
Citadel Typhus Corrosion was applied where rust was showing through and then Citadel Ryza Rust was applied. This was then washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade. A further dry brush of Ryza Rust was applied.
Humbrol acrylic gloss varnish was painted over the surface where the decals were to be applied.

The decals are MiniScene Models Graffiti Transfers (MG2). They have a white base so need to be trimmed closely. I followed the instructions, except I pre-dampened the application site with Humbrol DecalFix and applied it over the decal when in place, pushing it into the ribs in the container sides.

Once dried, it was varnished with Humbrol acrylic matt varnish. Then the there sides were treated.

Finally a last wash of Agrax Earthshade was applied.

The Walking Dead - Andrea Booster Walker

Most of the The Walking Dead: All Out War booster packs have a walker in the pack.

This is the walker from the Andrea booster pack.

I have made each packs' bases have a common theme.

The Prelude to Woodbury walkers have a number of bricks on the base.  The Morgan booster have more bricks. The Salute miniature has papers. The Andrea booster figures have an open carton and bricks. The carton was cut from a small length of 4mm square section plastic tube with a lid made from a piece of 4mm wide strip.

Anvil Industries Martian Orbital Fusileers squad

So having obtained some additional 30mm lipped bases (another thing I did not buy at Salute) I have put together a seven man squad of Martian Orbital Fusileers.

First, the Squad Leader.
Undercoated Citadel Corax White, the visor was painted Vallejo Night Blue, the two soft packs Citadel Steel Legion Drab, the gun Vallejo Black, the coils Citadel Ultramarine blue dry brushed white. The base was painted with Citadel Zandri Dust.

The whole figure was then shaded with Citadel Nuln Oil. It was then dry brushed with Citadel Ceramite White. The gun was repainted black and highlighted with Vallejo Black Grey. The coils were washed with Citadel Asuman  blue. The cloth areas were shaded with Citadel Agrax Earthshade (the soft packs were repainted with Citadel Steel Legion Drab).
The sight lens was Citadel Mephiston Red.
