Survivor Stories Cast - Sophie

Sophie was a difficult student. On the day the world ended she was in detention. She spent that night locked in a school office (assisted by the bottle of whiskey she found in the filing cabinet she had prised open). The following day she broke out of the office and escaped via the gym (picking up a baseball bat and a leather jacket on the way).

Sophie will be one of the characters in the Survivor Stories campaign for Mantic Games' The Walking Dead: All Out War.

The figure is Dorothy from Crooked Dice's Savage School Girls 1 pack.

To differentiate her from a previously painted example, I went for a more colourful paint job.

The figure was undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black spray.

The skirt was Vallejo Luftwaffe Camouflage Green, highlighted with Citadel Warpstone Glow.  Once it had been dry brushed with Citadel Terminatus Stone, it was washed with Citadel Athonian Camoshade.

The jacket was base coated with Army Painter Chaotic Red, then Citadel Mephiston Red.

The cuffs, jacket lining and Sophie's hair was painted with Army painter Skeleton Bone, the hair drybrushed with Citadel terminates Stone and then washed with Citadel Seriphim Sepia.

The rucksack was Citadel Caledor Sky, drybrushed and then washed with Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade.

The shirt was Army Painter Stone Golem.

Survivor Shack

Sarissa Precision have recently added a Survivor Shack to their post apocalypse range.

The building is made from a combination of MDF and greyboard, cleanly laser cut.

Assembly was without a problem. As supplied, the roof is made of greyboard, and there are pieces of pre-cut greyboard to make patches. I initially decided thatI would cover it in roofing felt/tar paper using the traditional method of pea glue and tissue paper.

I then decided that I had better ask on the Lead Adventures Forum what kind of roofing material was more common.

The consensus was corrugated iron.

So I had a look through my stock of Slaters plastikard and found what I thought was 7mm scale corrugated iron. I cut it into strips and epoxied it to the main part of the roof and the extension. I then found that it was 4mm scale corrugated iron. Citadel Typhus Corrosion textured paint was used to add some areas of, well corrosion.

The building was sprayed with Halfords Grey acrylic paint followed by Halfords black spray. The floors were painted with Vallejo Old Wood and the walls dry brushed with the same colour and Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey. A final light dry brush of Citadel Terminatus Stone was used to highlight the edges. It was then given a wash of Citadel Agrax Earthshade.

The roof was misted with Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey. The rust patches were drybrushed with Citadel Ryza Rust and then washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade.
Photographed under flash.

There is a door, but I have not painted it yet.

The South Atlantic War: References

While looking for Twilight 2000 references, I found The Battle For The Falklands, by Max Hastings and Simon Jenkins.
Coincidently it came up on Lead Adventures this weekend.

Twilight 2000: Reference material 2

Back in the mid to late 'eighties, I used to play Ultramodern 6mm games. One of the companies responsible for the rules I used was Tabletop Games, especially those rules written by the late Bruce Rea-Taylor.

First up is actually a set of rules designed for 20mm scale games (based on a ground scale of 1cm = 1 metre). It includes organisations for British, American and Soviet forces.
Challenger (and the later Challenger II) rules were for 6mm and 10mm games with infantry based as half section (Challenger) or full section (Challenger II). Challenger was published in 1983, Challenger II in 1988

There is a whole range of supplements for these (and the War-games Research Group).
The Digest series added additional forces from various theatres. Digests four and five were published after Mr Rea-Taylor's death and cover forces for Challenger II.
There was a scenario book, with a mix of historical and fictional scenarios.
A more detailed look at these books will follow.

Another set of rules from that period are Games Designer Workshop rules Combined Arms.
Those rules were at a larger scale, each vehicle/stand representing a platoon.

One of the most important fact/fiction books was The Third World War. This is the inspiration for Harold Coyle's Team Yankee novel.

Munitorium Container number two

I picked up another Munitorium Container from the 40K artwork.

While I was building it, I decided to photograph how poorly the doors fit.

I doubt whether that is vac-tight!
I continued to number the containers using the Cadian decal sheet. As you can see, the containers stack.

Lead Wombles - part 3

I had been thinking about building some Space Marines for Kill Team, and suddenly remembered that I had made one for the Lead Legion (from the Lead Adventures Forum).

So a quick rummage in the loft, and voila, a shrink wrapped 2004 box of Wombles (2004 is the copyright date, no idea where I bought it or when).

In the box was one command sprue.
Two body and head sprues.
 Two legs and arms sprues.
I am going to paint these and then attach the bolt guns (so I can reach the chest plates).

Sergeant with Chainsword and bolt pistol, Gunner with flamer, and three marines with bolt guns.

Spectre Technical Bravo = Work in Progress

Progress has been slow on the Spectre Technicals.

The body is in two parts (as is the Spectre Technical Alpha). The join unfortunately passes across the wheel arch, so there is a requirement to glue and fill the gap.
 This is the other side.
So they need refilling and sanding.
