Guards of Traitors Toil

Guards of Traitor's Toll is a new Skirmish level adventure game from Grey for Now.

It is a semi-cooperative game where players control squads of city guards as they patrol the city. They have to apprehend miscreants of various stripes, ensure the citizens do not get to rebellious and deal with sinister plots against the city.

The box contains four sprues of City Folk (making 24 figures) and two sprues of City Guard (making 12 figures). The City Guard is an equal opportunity employer. There are suggested builds for the City Folk, be aware that you will need twenty citizen figures to play the introductory scenario in addition to your guard patrol.
The rule book.
The various cards and special dice, all in a plastic container that will take the counters (see below) when they are removed from the sheet.

Western Forces HMMWV Weapons Carrier

Civil War was a 2024 Action Adventure film written and directed by Alex Garland set in a dystopian future.

The film follows four journalists travelling across a country riven by civil war.

One of the secessionist movements is called Western Forces.

This is a Western Forces HMMWV weapons carrier fitted with a protected turret and M2 HMG.

The model is from Empress (bought at Salute 2025).

The spare wheel carrier is made from Evergreen square and rectangular section plastic rod. The aerial is brass rod with an Evergreen plastic tube as the base.
Have you spotted the mistake yet?

The stars are five inch ones from Rubico 1/56 scale transfer sets.
This is where I went wrong.
I checked that the turret did not intersect with the smoke dischargers (from Spectre) before gluing them in place. The problem was I had missed that the gun shield is a lot further forward and will sweep through the dischargers.

When Nightmares Come - to Pike's Office

At Warfare 2024 I bought a number of buildings from Warbases' World War Two range, one of which was Pike's Office. The buildings will be used as an industrial estate for When Nightmares Come.

A Terror checks out the new property.

The building is fairly simple.
The roof (bottom right) will rest on the interior wall panels that provide the window frames and the door.
The interior wall panels (right).
Assembly is straightforward. Remove the base and the four walls from the "sprue" (there are connecting tabs holding the pieces to the "sprue", cut them carefully with a scalpel). Clean up the edges.

I have a glass plate I use for this sort of thing - not sure where it came from but it provides a flat surface that nothing sticks to.

Get some heavy pots to support the walls during drying.

Apply PVA glue to the edges of the base and the tabs on the edges of the walls. Then with your four hands bring the four walls together making sure they are aligned and vertical. Use the heavy pots to support the walls while they dry.

I used white wood filler to fill in any gaps on the walls and smoothed it off with sandpaper.

I used masking tape to mask the window and door spaces and the rooflights. I used masking tape to secure the interior panels in place and then added the roof. This effectively masks the interior of the building.

The whole exterior was then sprayed with Plastikote Rust effect spray to give it some texture.

Once dry, the tape was removed and the whole building (except the roof) including the interior panels was sprayed with TTCombat Skeleton Bone.

When that was dry, the window frames were masked on the inside and Humbrol 163 Dark Green was sprayed for the window frames and door.

The rooflights were glued to the roof and a Debris of War bin bag was added. The whole roof given a coat of Citadel Chaos Black spray.

The brick line was painted with Army Painter Fur Brown.
Now it is awaiting weathering and the brick detailing.

Wargames Atlantic Zombies

Wargames Atlantic have recently released a 30 figure box set of Zombies. I bought a box on offer at Salute.

They come in a standard Wargames Atlantic box containing five sprues, each building six different zombies for a total of 30.
There are (according to the blurb) seventy five different heads per sprue: regular, Ancient Rome, Dark Ages, Viking, 18th Century, Pirates, Napoleonic, WW1, WW2 and Modern Police, Fire, Construction and Civilians. The idea is that you can use them in any period (and use spare heads and arms with the associated period normal figures).

The problem is they are just plain odd.
They appear to be wearing Carapace armour under their tee shirts
And they seem rather small (this one is leaning forward a bit but...). Comparison shot with a North Star/Oathmark Revenant and a WA Baron's War 2 Knight.
They are very cartoony, Mantic would look at them and go, NO!
I do not mean the TWD:AOW figures, but the Warpath Plague Zombies.
See what I mean - Mantic Plague Zombies and a Stargrave metal zombie.

Like the Harvesters, this seems to be a lost opportunity by Wargames Atlantic.

At least one will end up painted as a zombie, I might try a few as ghostie things - they remind me of the ghosts in Hilda.

Salute 2025

Salute 52 organised by the South London Warlords took place at Excel Docklands on 12 April 2025.

Like always, it was well organised, with an adjacent hall being used to accumulate the attendees from 0900 (the doors officially opened at 1000) and then running them through the bar code readers to a second queue.

That meant that not only did you get to peruse your goodie bag (top right in the above picture) while you waited, when the doors opened, you went straight in.

The show was well attended and there were a number of traders I had not seen since before "one thing or another".

Oathmark Revenant Champion - Painted

So this Revenant Champion was definitely undercoated in February 2023. At some point the haft of the two handed mace got a coat of Citadel Dryad Bark.

But it skulked in the figure case unloved and unregarded like the Revenant infantry.

And now finally it is painted.

The figure is based on a Renedra 25mm diameter plastic base, the figure's puddle base is blended into the base with Milliput. Woodland Scenics fine cinder ballast was added over PVA glue.
The flesh is Citadel Rakarth Flesh. The hair, leggings and the cloak are Vallejo Black Grey. The skirt is a mix of Vallejo Black Grey and Citadel Dryad Bark.
The haft of the mace and the shoes are Citadel Dryad Bark.
The metal work (chest plate, mace head, leg guards, wrist guard and brooch) were painted with MIG Black Green.
The skin was shaded with Citadel Seraphim Sepia.
The metalwork was weathered with Citadel Nihilakh Oxide.
Brown areas were shaded with Citadel Agrax Earthshade. The grey areas were shaded with Citadel Nuln Oil.
The fur collar was shaded with both Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil.
The jewel was painted with Army Painter Stone Golem, and then Citadel Warpstone Glow.

Oathmark Revenant Infantry - Painted

The Oathmark Revenant Infantry were released at the end of June 2021, I assembled the first rank in August that year. They were undercoated before February 2023.

Finally I have painted them.

Based on the traditional Renedra 25mm diameter bases, the puddle bases were blended in with Milliput.
Woodland Scenics fine cinder ballast was applied over PVA glue.
They were undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black spray.
The flesh  and the plume are Citadel Rakarth Flesh, leggings Citadel Steel Legion Drab.
For the next lot I might change the plumes to Army Painter Stone Golem and wash with Citadel Soulblight Grey.
The skirt and boots are Citadel Catachan Flesh.
The axe haft is Citadel Dryad Bark.
The metalwork was painted with MIG Black Green.
Citadel Nihalakh Oxide was used for the weathering, inspired by the exhibits at the World of Stonehenge exhibition.
The flesh and plume were washed with Citadel Seraphim Sepia.
The leggings, boots and skirt were drybrushed with Citadel Terminatus Stone and then washed with Citadel Agrax Earth Shade.

The whole first rank.
