North Star have recently released the latest box set (and metal characters) for Oathmark - Human Heavy Infantry.
The plastic box set builds 30 figures. As I mentioned at the end of my first post about Flat Caps and Truncheons, I have never watched Peaky Blinders. I was in my local The Works (other discount book sellers are available) a couple of weeks ago and saw this on sale.
It has a number of colour photographs of the cast, set and vehicles, which I thought would be useful reference as well as descriptions of the production.
The painting of the Ailthean continues.
I decided that a disruptive pattern would break up the vast flat areas of the side of the turret.
Most of the vehicle was masked, leaving an area to be sprayed. Colour Forge Ghoul Grey was chosen.
Masking round the rungs of the access ladder was the hardest part.
At Colours I picked up the (at the time) new Medieval Foot Sergeants set from Victrix.
Though historical figures, they will probably do double duty as a human faction for Oathmark as well as for Barons War and Lion Rampant.
As has been the case for a while, the set comes in a bag not a box, but does include an assembly guide.
The figures are wearing gambesons, quilted or padded armour in the form of jackets, some of which is worn over mail. This is typical of well equipped foot soldiers not of nobility.
The set builds 32 figures, there are sufficient polearms, hand weapons and (by utilising standard bearer arms) spears to equip all figures with similar weaponry.
For Oathmark, these will be built with hand weapons and spears (polearms/two handed weapons are not available to non Warrior/Knight types).
Polearm and two handed weapon sprue.

The interior was sprayed with Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey.
So the Aithean has been base painted.
The track units and the body were undercoated separately. Inverted, they were sprayed with Citadel Chaos Black. The right way up they were undercoated with Citadel Mechanicus Standard Grey.
The treads were painted with a mixture of Vallejo Black, Vallejo Black Grey and Army Painter Chaotic Red from a wet palette. A redder mix was used for the exhaust. With the latest issue of Wargames Illustrated there was a sprue of the latest plastics for the revised version of Konflict '47 - Warlord Games' Weird War Two game based on Bolt Action.
There were two sets of sprues, US jump Infantry or Axis Stahltruppen, I searched out the latter.
Here are the sprues.
There are parts to build three Stahltruppen (powered suits).Being in the army is not just about the comfort of ceremonial duties in the capital, or the bright lights and temptations of The City. Sometimes it is sentry duty. In the rain. In the jungle.
Besides being the last line defending the rest of the country from the less salubrious denizens of the City, the army is responsible for guarding the borders, and (for suitable considerations) protecting operations and installations around the country.
Units are assigned to border regions for three months rotation, depending on the size and the level of the perceived threat there can be between three and five platoons at any one base. At any one time there is one platoon coming to the end of their assignment and one just beginning.
When protecting commercial installations, normally a single platoon is assigned. There is normally a two week overlap between the current and the next platoon so the new platoon can be shown the ropes.
Three months is viewed by High Command as being long enough to gain useful knowledge of the locality and locals but short enough that the opportunities for corruption are limited. As previously mentioned the army has a very low tolerance for corruption, and the penalties are strict.
The figure is from the Gringo's 40 Early Vietnam GI in poncho range and is the GI defending figure. At Colours 2025 there was a stand selling 3D prints. According to the floor plan it was Modular Worlds, but there is only an Etsy link, so I cannot confirm that.
It has very similar proportions to the Empress HMMWV model.Wargames Atlantic have recently released their next box of modern image figures -Operators.
The box contains four identical sprues that build five figures (one of which is kneeling)Work in progress on the Crusader Aithean tractor.
There is an issue with the front of the turret/body, there appears to be a large depression, not sure if it is a moulding issue or a mould issue. It looks like a giant thoumbprint.
It has been filled with Milliput, but needs some further smoothing.
The join in the tread units is rather obvious and has needed a lot of filing and filling.
