Heroics and Ros 6mm Modern British

Way back in 2019 I bought a number of items from Heroics and Ros at Colours.

Four years later I thought I would base some of the figures.

While the Challenger and Challenger 2 rules from way back when used rectangular bases, I thought I would see what the figures looked like on circular bases.

A strip of H&R M12 Modern British and a Renedra 20mm circular base.

For rules such as PSC's NORTHAG, a base contains four figures. Four figures from the strip, GPMG and three riflemen, were cut off and glued to the base.

The figure bases were smoothed in by the traditional application of Milliput.
Once set, it was undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black.

The base was painted with Humbrol 29 Earth Brown.
The figures were painted with Citadel Karak Stone. The flesh was painted with Citadel Bugman Glow.
Citadel Death World Forest and Steel Legion Drab was applied as stripes, mainly on the helmets.
The barrels of the rifles and the GPMG were painted black.
Citadel Agrax Earthshade was then applied.
Woodlands Scenics Burnt Grass Turf was then glued to the base.

Wargames Atlantic Great War Germans

Wargames Atlantic have a slowly increasing range of Great War multi part/multi-pose figures.

With the imminent release of A War Transformed from Osprey Games, I picked up a box of the Germans.

Each sprue contains six bodies (five standing, one kneeling).

There is a good selection of heads on the sprue, enough to fit all figures with the same heads

There is a selection of weapons, rifles, machine pistols, pistols (including Mauser broom Handles) and a machine gun.

Crooked Dice Bot

In Crooked Dice's Colony-87 range is a 'Bot Trader and two items of merchandise.

This is the first one painted.

This is a small, non-threatening style utility 'bot. It has one full spectrum scanner and a second ultrasound scanner. The 'hands' are coated with a synthetic rubber coating with embedded feedback devices for precise and reliable operation.
The figure was based on a 30mm lipped base to match the other Spacegrave/5PFH figures, the gaps filled with Milliput and a layer of Woodland Scenics fine cinder ballast.
The figure was undercoated with Citadel Corax White spray.
The base was painted with Citadel Zandri Dust.
The ultrasonic scanner and the hands were painted with MIG Rubber and Tyres.
The figure was then washed with Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade.
This might be an objective or just a pice of mobile scenery.

Crooked Dice Wraiths, and how to base slotta base figures for Oathmark etc.

Way back when, the new way to base figures was the  slot base, each figure had a tab (or in some cases tabs) which were fitted into a plastic base with a slot in it. Gone were the days of random sized bases or having to cut regular sized bases from plastic card, or using washers.

This was fine, except the base was four to six millimetres tall, and contributed a great deal to the height of  figure.

Renedra introduced a range of plastic bases less than 2mm high. These were regular in size and height. Combined with plastic figures, it made basing easier. Admittedly the figures might have puddle bases, so some Milliput would be required.

But how do you use slot base figures with them?

There are three ways.

First, cut the tab off, file the feet flat and use a pin.

Two William Killian.
Second, cut a slot in the base and trim the tab.

Another Crooked Dice figure, this time an X-Commando (with a police woman head).

The third is to build up a slot with some plastic. Two pieces of sufficient thickness will do, but for the Barrow Wraiths I decided I wanted a bit more regularity, so it was back to the Renedra bases, in this case the 20mm one.

Renedra 20mm base on top of a 25mm base.
The 20mm base was cut in two (each one was cut so the figure would be as central as possible on the 25mm base. The larger piece was glued to the base and while it dried the tab was held in place and the second pice added. Once it was holding, the tab was removed, creating a suitable sized slot. Once set, the tab was glued into the slot.
Cutting down the tab makes the figure sit moree flat on the base, the one of the right will need quite a bit more milliput.

Viewed from above shows the asymmetric cut.

Renedra 20 foot container as cover

I reviewed the Renedra 20 foot container earlier , but mentioned that I would take some photographs of the container in use as cover.

Empress Miniatures HMMWV.

Empress Miniatures GAZ Tigr.

Empress BMD-1

Clockwork Goblin/Warlord M8 Grizzly walker.

Warlord M4A4C

Empress Miniatures Challenger 2.

Blotz River Barge

Blotz do a River Barge, which is a suitable size to take one unit of Oathmark infantry, here shown with a 5x4 sabot stand of Human Archers.

As can be seen, the kit is made from MDF.
The kit contains two full size MDF panels and a smaller panel.

There are two dowels, one foe a mast, the other for a gaff, a boom or a crosspiece depending upon the period being modelled. There are fittings for a boom or a cross piece.
Assembly is simple, though it is worth checking the online instructions.
The MDF construction is very obvious with gaps between the panels.
Under Oathmark rules, this would be classified as a small ship, capable of carrying one full size (20 figure) unit. The foredeck is quite spacious and I would be tempted to add a light artillery piece (and crew) with the additional two ship crew to upgrade it to a large ship.

It will happily take a Renedra 5x4 rank sabot base.

Oathmark Barrow Worm

Barrow or Ghoul Worms are enormous burrowing creatures that having consumed dead flesh have become undead themselves.

Necromancers can control (with difficulty) the creatures, unleashing them on their enemies.

Having wanted to add some heavy hitters to my undead army, I was looking for something suitable.
Crooked Dice had their Corpse Scavengers but they are rather complicated to assemble. They also have a Death Worm. This is a one piece resin model.
The model was undercoated with Citadel Corax White.
The base was painted with Humbrol Dark Earth 30. The body (except the claw/fangs) was painted with Citadel Rakarth Flesh. The claw/fangs were painted first with Vallejo Old Wood. This was followed by Vallejo Dark Sand. They were highlighted wit a mix of Vallejo Dark Sand, Vallejo White and Army Painter Stone Golem. The wound was painted with the same Dark Sand/White/Stone Golem mix with the holes painted with Citadel Mechrite Red. Open sores were painted with the Same Mechrite Red. Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade was applied to the sores. The pustules were painted with a White/Stone Golem mixture and then Citadel Gryphonne Sepia was applied. Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade was applied to the mouth.
