Anvil Zone Mercenaries

Anvil Industries have recently released a Print on Demand range called Zone Mercenaries. with male and female figures.

They are equipped with reinforced armour, helmets and gas masks and AKM assault rifles.

The problem is, the weapons are rather large, partly due to the limits on the materials used for their normal resin ranges, but I suspect mainly to be in scale with their normal market of gamers who want something similar to but more interesting than 40K.

This is a bit of  problem as they do not look okay with my modern image type standard Empress figures' weapons.

However a plan emerged to use them as alternative figures for The Walking Dead: All Out War.

Size comparison between a female (left) and male (right) Zone Mercenary and TWD:AOW zombies.

Their weapons and equipment are a drop in replacement for The Commonwealth Trooper (you can probably build them using various existing equipment from the original range)
They are slightly shorter than the Commonwealth Trooper but look okay with the walkers and survivors.
To hide the height difference, I used Crooked Dice supplied slotted round bases and put a thin plastic card panel over the slot. It raises the head height slightly.

Anvil Autocannon

I ordered an autocannon and the recently released British Space Force gun carriage from their Print on Demand range.

The 16mm diameter wheels, autocannon, ammo box and handles are in the usual Anvil resin. The gun carriage is printed in high resolution resin.

Spacegrave Trooper for scale.

I am not sure how to crew this weapon.

The options are use a kneeling Anvil figure (not sure about the particular theme) or fit electronic sights and servos together with Stargrave troopers with remote controls.

Anvil Industries Biohazard Sergeant as an Astronaut

A while back Anvil Industries released a five man Biohazard Containment Unit and a Biohazard Sergeant.

The default helmet is a Millenium Gasmask, but I bought a set of their Spheroidal Dome Bubble Helmets as a substitute.

I thought they would make good Expanse style Belters.

This is the Sergeant

He is armed with a pistol and a slung HK416 SOPMOD assault rifle.
He is bracing the pistol with the hand holding a torch.

Anvil Industries Astronaut

Anvil Industries have a range of Print on Demand Astronauts. there are male and female ones armed either with HK G11 caseless assault rifles or Gyrojet rifles.

This is one of the female astronauts armed with the Gyrojet rifle.

Unfortunately, the rifles are integrated with the arms, so you cannot swap weapons - you have to buy the relevant weapon arms. It does make mix and matching the male and female figures impossible if you want them to have the same weapons.

C-SPEC ONI Suits

Anvil Industries has just released two Print on Demand Heavy Power Suit, One shooting, the other standing.

They are multipart kits with either a separate head or a hatch.

Both are armed with a Light Machine Gun, one held two handed (shooting), the other in one hand, the other pointing.
The ONI is at the edge of being a Powered Suit, the arms of the operator are external to the suit, but there are two matching big powered arms slaved to their movement.. The operators legs are contained within the upper parts of the suit's legs.

Any resemblance to a GuGes Landmate is coincidental.

Anvil Industries Leaper for Zona Alfa

Anvil Industries released a Print on Demand option at Salute and have been adding figures to the range.
At the end of 2023 they added Leapers, humanoid figures with long clawed hands, torn Gorka suits and gas masks.

There are four figures in the set, one crouching, one crouched down, one on all fours and one leaping.
There are four bodies (the one on all fours has both arms and legs attached). There are three pairs of arms, two sets of four heads (with different gas masks) and two tree stumps for the leaping figure.

The Gorka suit is Citadel Death World Forest.
The gas mask hood is Citadel Steel Legion Drab.
The flesh is Citadel Rakath Flesh.
Mask hardware is Vallejo Black Grey.
Lenses and wounds are Citadel Mephiston Red.
The flesh was washed with Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade.
The suit was washed with Army Painter Military Shader.
The hood and the boots with Citadel Agrax Earthshade.
The flesh does seem excessively grey.

So how do they compare in size to my Zona Alfa figures?
The comparison is difficult as the Leaper is crouched over.
Here it is crouching next to an Empress Modern Russian.
Here it is with the compulsory William Killian comparison.

Anvil Industries Space Opera Bounty Hunter

Anvil Industries are offering a Print on Demand service for some of their digital products.

One of the items is their Brotherhood Sergeant.

There are two different heads, two left hands with weapons and an optional jet pack.

There was no flash and only minor clean up (there were a couple of supports on the underside of the head.

The kit assembled easily with superglue.

I think I have a suitable ship for him here.

Anvil Industries C-48 Warden Mechanised Warriors

Anvil Industries are re-mastering and re-releasing their figures from their sadly missed AfterLife game.

The latest set of figures are their C-48 Warden robot.

Though you can order the components separately, it is more economic to order the three figure set.

The set allows you to select a different right hand weapon (I went for three CR-9 cannons as I have compatible weapons from the AJAX suits). I also added a set of three left hand CR-9 cannons.

The torso contains four direct fire missiles.

The robots stand about 40mm tall and are scaled to match the Anvil Exo-Lords figures.
William Killian for scale.
There are two different head styles (plus the heads from the other Exo-Lord scaled robots)

This example is armed with a CR-9 cannon and four missiles.
The left arm shows the mounting rail for additional weapons or accessories.

Anvil Industries Light Scout Tank

Anvil Industries have started a Print on Demand service for some of their digital offerings.

This one is their Light Scout Tank.

I have not noticed any print lines. Previous Print On Demand models have gone together well, using superglue.

The kit comprises a one piece hull with tracks, a turret, two hatches, a hatches separator, a turret crew insert (you need to supply a head for the gunner and a head, arms and torso for the commander) and a ball mount MG42 style machine gun. The hatches separator is fitted after the turret crew insert (if the hatches are to be left open).

The underside, of which more anon.
It is a tiny vehicle (not as small as the Carden-Loyd carrier). William Killian for scale.
The driver's position is a bit disappointing, there is not much room. However, the theoretical lower hull (not provided - see the underside view) will provide a bit more room. I need to photograph it with a bottom plate in place and with an Empress driver.
The turret rotates.
This comparison shot shows how much smaller the Light Scout Tank is compared to the FT

The question is, what can you use it for?

A large part of the Anvil range acts as an alternative to 40K models. I do not know if there are any Imperial Guard vehicles this can stand in for.

The space for the driver is a bit of a sticking point. I know most of the Imperial Guard vehicles have a similar issue.

But at least this Chaos Renegade HellHound has the headroom.
