The Doomed - first war band

The Doomed is a recently released Osprey Games hard cover wargame. It is advertised as a "quick-playing, rules-light war-game".

Players build war bands that hunt Horrors on an abandoned world.

There are no "official" figures, however the recently released North Star Scavengers box set contains some suitable figures.

My first war band is based on the Inheritor Courts list.
Sheriff + Slugger + Maul
The body is from the Scavenger set, the head from the Mercenaries set. The slugger is actually a grenade launcher and the maul hand is a repurposed grenade arm.
Pathfinder+Slugger+Maul
Again a Scavenger body, Mercenary head and a grenade launcher as a slugger.
Legionnaire + Thunder gun
All from the Scavengers set.
Champion+Ancestral Blade+Slugger
Scavenger body, Mercenary head and arms from the Frostgrave Soldiers set.
Group shot.

Frostgrave Knight

With Warband Two being led by an Illusionist, one of the spells is Illusionary Soldier. It makes sense to have the most well protected soldier as the figure is dispelled when it takes any damage.

This Knight is built using one of the bodies from the Soldiers II sprue, a Sallet head from the Frostgrave Knights set, an Oathmark Human Officer/Champion  sword arm and an Oathmark Human shield arm.

There might be a scabbard if any of the existing scabbards would take the length of the sword.

Frostgrave Warband Two

So the next work in progress Warband is built mainly from the Frostgrave Soldiers II sprues with one body and a number of bits from the Frostgrave Wizards II sprue

This war band is for second edition.

The wizard will be an Illusionist, and the war band is optimised for speed and ranged combat, the archers engage at range, the thieves use their speed to retrieve the treasure tokens.

The Wizard (staff)
Apprentice (hand weapon)
Apothecary (Staff)
Archer (Light armour,, bow, dagger)
Archer (Light armour, bow, dagger)
Archer (Light armour, bow, dagger)
Thug (hand weapon)
Thief (dagger)
Thief (dagger)
Thief (dagger)

Wizard, Apprentice and a Apothecary.
The Apothecary is built from the Wizards Two sprue. I clipped the detail at the top of the staff as she is not a Wizard and so would have a less showy staff. The Wizard's staff still needs detail work.
The archers. The left hand figure's head is actually from the Wizards Two sprue, but has a nearly identical hat.

Thug and thief. The thief's dagger was cut from one of the separate hands (left hand) and attached to a right hand.

Two more thieves have to be assembled.

Frostgrave Warband One - for Frostgrave Second Edition

Previously I started to build a Warband for the first edition Frostgrave.

And now Osprey Games has released the second edition.

The original warband was as follows:

  1. The Wizard (staff)
  2. Apprentice (hand weapon)
  3. Man at Arms (leather armour, hand weapon and shield)
  4. Archer (leather armour, bow, dagger)
  5. Archer (leather armour, bow, dagger)
  6. Thug (hand weapon)
  7. Thug (hand weapon)
  8. Thug (hand weapon)
  9. Thief (dagger)
  10. Thief (dagger)

Though this is still a valid war band, there has been a slight change in costs, thugs and thieves are now free, but you have less gold coins at the beginning.

The revised second edition war band comprises:

  1. The Wizard (staff)
  2. Apprentice (hand weapon)
  3. Man at Arms (Light armour, hand weapon and shield)
  4. Man at Arms (Light armour, hand weapon and shield)
  5. Archer (Light armour,, bow, dagger)
  6. Archer (Light armour,, bow, dagger)
  7. Thug (hand weapon)
  8. Thug (hand weapon)
  9. Thief (dagger)
  10. Thief (dagger)
So now I need to build another Man at Arms (or find one I built earlier).

Oathmark - Frostgrave Human Soldier comparison

On the Lead Adventure Forum there was a discussion on the relative sizes of the Frostgrave Soldiers and the Oathmark Human Infantry.

Here is a comparison shot of a Frostgrave Soldier and an Oathmark Human Infantryman.

I cannot see any major differences.

Frostgrave Warband - planning

I have a number of posts about Frostgrave, but have not actually built a Wizard's Warband in full.

Planning the war band.

The intention is to build this mainly using the Frostgrave Soldier (I) sprue with pieces from the Wizard Sprue.

So the party consists of:

  1. The Wizard (staff)
  2. Apprentice (hand weapon)
  3. Man at Arms (leather armour, hand weapon and shield)
  4. Archer (leather armour, bow, dagger)
  5. Archer (leather armour, bow, dagger)
  6. Thug (hand weapon)
  7. Thug (hand weapon)
  8. Thug (hand weapon)
  9. Thief (dagger)
  10. Thief (dagger)
That leaves me with 20 gold coins to play with.

Frostgrave Soldiers II

North Star have recently released the second Soldiers set for Frostgrave. This set comprises a set of female figures, warmly dressed for the Frozen City.

The box contains four identical sprues of five multi-part and multi-pose figures, plus twenty 25mm flat circular bases.

These are built from one of the sprues. Some additional greenstuff work will need to be done to decorate the Magician's staff and some additional pouches added to the figures.

A figure assembled as a Magician. The right arm is one of the two handed axe arms, with the axe removed and drilled out  and replaced with a 1mm brass rod.

An Apprentice, carrying the Magician's kit.
Apprentice and Magician venture into the Frozen City.
The first five figures.
