Warriors of Athena: Minotaur

North Star Minotaur for Warriors of Athena 

The figure was undercoated with Citadel Zandri Dust spray.

Body is Citadel Dryad Bark, horns are Army Painter Skeleton Bone.

There are some Gamers Grass Gnarled Branches on the base.

Victrix Greek Hoplites.

 I ordered a pack of Victrix Greek Hoplites in the North Star Boxing Day sale, probably for the forthcoming Warriors of Athena skirmish game.

I will need to read up on the various armour types and helmets used by the Greek city states.

Victrix have dispensed with boxes, the eight identical sprues come in a ziplock bag with an instruction sheet (a nice touch)

First figure assembled.

Wargames Atlantic Skeleton Cavalry

 Wargames Atlantic released the Skeleton Cavalry box set a while ago.

As it says on the tin box, there are ten horses, two chariots and twenty five skeletons.

The twenty five skeletons include the riders and crew of the horses and chariots, but can be built in a number of combinations (see the box text above).

The skeletons are of the Ray Harryhausen style with Ancient Greek style kit, shields and armour.

There are no instructions, but it appears the chariot can be built either as an open sided or closed sided chariot.

The intention is to build the horses as zombie/revenant style so they will need some internals and skin added. The crew may need kit-bashing with the Oathmark Revenant Infantry to match the more Northern European style,

Oathmark Odyssey - Living Statue 2

 This is the second Living Statue, using a Crooked Dice Titan from their Argonaut range. It is also using the Melee Weapons.

The scars on the shield need painting.

Another item I bought at SELWG 2022. 

The kit comprised a circular base, five full height pillars, one half heigh pillar and three cap stones.

The pillars are plain.

Two of the pillars were pinned by drilling through from underneath, the other four were just glued in place. A circular infilled was cut to fit the inside.

Milliput was used to fair in the base of the pillars and to add some rocks and additional pieces of masonry. The ground was covered in a mixture of Woodland Scenics fine Cinder Ballast and some generic granite ballast.

The underside was sprayed with Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey (I had run out of Halfors Grey Primer) The visible surface was sprayed with Citadel Zandri Dust, with a Zenithal spray of Humbrol Desert Tan.

It was then extensively dry brushed with Citadel Tyrant Skull followed by Citadel Terminatus Stone.

Once fully dry it was shaded with Citadel Agrax Earthshade. Another dry brush with Citadel Terminatus Stone brought up the detail.

Gamers Grass 6mm Dense Beige Tufts provided some plant life on the ground and a mixture of Woodland Scenics fine and coarse Burnt Grass turf created the greenery growing on the stones.

Wargames Atlantic Persians for Oathmark Odyssey

 A while back I showed the sprues for Wargames Atlantic's Persian infantry.

Here is the first painted example (currently without a shield).

Oathmark Odyssey - Living Statue

The town was about a dozen small houses clustered around a square with a shiny bronze statue on a plinth in the middle.

We had been spotted, as we could see figures rushing around. The women and children were being directed to the most impressive building while the menfolk were collecting weapons and shields.

The men began forming ranks, but we could see we outnumbered them at least five times.

Behind the ranks, I could just make out some priest or similar making offers to the statue. As I turned to the soldier next to me to say this should be easy, there was a sound like a god's sword sliding over another god's shield and his eyes turned wide.

Looking back, the statue began to step down from the plinth, its sword and shield at the ready.

I wanted some more fantastical elements for the Oathmark Odyssey armies, and the inspiration of Ray Harryhausen is hard to avoid.

Crooked Dice have two different Titans for their Argonauts range with optional Melee Weapons.

This is the first one completed. He is moving forward, his shield before him and the iron blade of his sword ready to strike.

The figure was undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black spray. It was then painted with Vallejo Brass. The "skirt" was painted with Army Painter Chaos red. 

The shield centre was first painted with Army Painter Stone Golem, followed by Humbrol 34 Acrylic matt White. The scars on the shield were painted Vallejo Brass then Vallejo Gold. 

The body was then extensively dry brushed with Vallejo Gold followed by a lighter dry brush of a mix of Citadel Mithril Silver and vallejo Gold.

It still has to receive a design on the shield (probably an Owl from the Ancient Greeks sets).

Oathmark Odyssey part seven: North Star Gorgon

 So, while I summon up the enthusiasm to begin to undercoat the Hoplites, I bought some figures to provide some more mythical flavour to the armies.

This is a North Star Ghost Archipelago Gorgon.

Based on a Renedra 25mm round base.

The body is Humbrol acrylic 30 Dark Green. The belly and the face are Citadel Death Guard Green and Citadel Nurgling Green. Highlights were added to the body with a similar mix to the face and belly The bow is Vallejo Old Wood and the quiver Citadel Mournfang Brown.

The fletching is Army Painter Stone Golem, the arrow shafts Vallejo Old Wood.

The body and head were washed with Citadel Coelia Greenshade.

Now to work out some stats for Oathmark.
