Warfare 2023

 For the first time in a while, I went to Warfare. For reasons as baroque as why the SELWG show is in the Lee Valley, Warfare was in Farnborough (okay 1.5 miles from the nearest railway station according to the web site, though whether that was as the crow flies or including going way past it to get to the entrance I do not know).

SELWG does lay on a bus service to and from the station, but for Warfare it was a bit of a slog out there.

There was a lot more of the companies I buy from at SELWG, but there were some surprising no-shows, which lead to some rearranging of tables that made finding some of the traders more difficult as they were not were they were on the map

I did end up buying a number of sets of rules, so in no particular order.

Seven Days to the Rhine, Cold War rules for the 'eighties. Though designed for 15mm, I am looking at either 10mm or 6mm.

Crooked Dice had their 2.5 version of their Cinematic Skirmish Rules. Combining the rules from the previous variants into a common book. They had lots of new figures, a number of which I also bought.

This is the first Fistfull of Lead game I have bought. It is a simple game for mechanics (and Kaiju) battles. No to find some suitable figures.

Pandyman had their new World War One Trench Offensive starter set. More later.

Winter of '79, set during a fictional civil breakdown during the late 'seventies. Small scale skirmish.

Other items, from Empress I bought a Hornet tank.

And LK-2 tank, plus a T64A.

From Pandyman I bought a number of their modern emergency service figures including Riot Police.

Fire man.

Police.

And two armoured Paramedics.

There were a lot of other things bought, but that is for a later post.

On the way back the route goes past the Farnborough Aeronautical Science Trust museum. There are a number of interesting items on display outside, one day I will come back and have a look in the museum.

7TV Apocalypse

One of the highlights of Salute this year was the release of 7TV Apocalypse.

The game is presented in a large and sturdy box, of similar dimensions to the second edition box reviewed in January 2016. The figure on the front reminds me of something...

Inside are three landscape orientated books.

Director's Guide (containing the core rules).

Producer's Guide (containing cast creation and scenario rules)

The Stuntman's Guide (containing the vehicle rules).

 Character cards, vehicle cards, gear and mutation cards and countdown cards.

 Plot point tokens, dice (including special dice), vehicle upgrade cards, tokens, template and the MacGuffin.

Crooked Dice Land Rover - Twilight 2000 style

Crooked Dice have just completed a Kickstarter campaign for a Post Apocalypse game using the 7TV rules. They have brought out a number of vehicles and add-ons before the contents of the Kickstarter are released. This includes a number of stowage sets. Their Medium Stowage set includes one piece that fits neatly on to the front of their Land Rover, and another that makes a great roof rack load.

I am building this as a Truck Utility Medium, Fitted For Radio, so added an aerial mount using a piece of 4mm square section tube (with 4mm strip ends) and an aerial base made from brass rod to the front right side of the bonnet.

There is a small gap between the front of the roof stowage and the roof, that was hidden by adding a tarpaulin made from Greenstuff. Though the stowage rack fitted in front of the grill, it did not balance nicely on the front bumper, so a piece of square section plastic rod was added.

I wish Crooked Dice had left the spare wheel separate, most examples of Landrovers in British service have the spare wheel on the bonnet. It would have been nice to be able to add some Jerry cans to the back.

This is the vehicle painted, but without decals (not sure how to source the number plates, but I do have some Union flags).

Twilight 2000 British Infantry - 28mm

A British Infantryman armed with an L1A1. Dressed in DPM camouflage with body armour and a rather full rucksack.

The figure is based on a Crooked Dice X-Commando with an Empress Miniatures Modern British helmet with enthusiastic camouflage. The rucksack is from the Warlord Games British Commandoes range.

Twilight 2000 British Infantry - 28mm

Crooked Dice have a range of British Army figures for their period film and television programme game 7TV.

This figure is straight out of the box (or in this case ziplock bag).

Armed with the L1A1 SLR and wearing a beret, he could represent a soldier in older uniform in a less hostile environment.

So, the Land Rover is now painted, it now needs weathering.
