Frostgrave Cultist Knights

Not every follower of some charismatic leader or deluded prophet is willing to risk all in their underwear, sometimes they have access to the arms and armour  of higher quality. Whether looted from some battlefield, stolen from a tomb or from their past lives, some cultists have the weapons of knightly grade, even if their behaviour is not so chivalrous.

Standard small thickness Frostgrave Box containing two identical figure sprues and associated round bases.
Each sprue builds five heavier armoured figures with a choice of single and double handed weapons, bows and crossbows.

There are various heads, including a Revenant style head (these heads have a ball type neck joint rather than the neck socket of the Revenants). These can be used to build better armoured Undead, including non Dark Age style revenants.
There could be a better selection of more conventional if Fallen knight helmets, but they are compatible with the general range of Frostgrave heads (and Anvil heads).

North Star Cultist III for Frostgrave

The Frostgrave Cultists III set from North Star contains multi part multi pose plastic figures, lightly armoured (if they have armour). They are suitable for general cult rabble as well as miscreants for SF games.

This one will be part of a Militia unit for my Necromancer's army.

Frostgrave Knight for Oathmark

As I was looking for the Anvil Industries' Brodie Helmets for the Heavy Infantry, I found some other Anvil heads, the Sallet ones.

The neck sockets need opening up to take the Anvil necks.
They are a bit late in style compared to the Oathmark figures but there is a Sallet helmet on the Frostgrave Knight sprue.

The sallet heads do suit the Frostgrave figures more than the Fireforge ones.

Oathmark Heavy Infantry with Brodie helmets

The previous Oathmark Human Heavy Infantry were built out of the box, but as previously shown, you can use Anvil Industries heads as well as heads from Frostgrave and Stargrave with the figures.

As I have already got some Soldiers with Brodie Helmets, it seemed logical to see what the Heavy Infantry figures looked like with the Brodie Gladiator helmets.

The neck socket needed to be opened out, first with a 3mm drill bit, followed by a 4mm and a 4.5mm drill bit. Super glue was used to fix the resin head to the plastic body.
The soldier figures and the knight were both armed with maces, so the Heavy Infantry figures used the two two-handed maces supplied on each sprue.

The Queen's Guard - Oathmark Human Heavy Infantry

As previously noted, I bought the pre-order offer for the Oathmark Human Heavy Infantry from North Star.

This included the metal Queen, Magician, Musician and three heroes.

It was not much of a leap to theme the figure build around the Queen, in heavy armour.

This is the first four plastics and the metal queen figure.

As this will be led by a queen figure, I thought a standard would be a nice touch. Though there are rules for standards in one of the expansion books, I thought to use it to highlight that this was a queen rather than one of the other champion figures.

So I needed a standard. The ones in the human sets are a bit weedy, so I had a look through my other sprues and thought the one from the Gripping Beast Goth Elite Cavalry looked useful (the cavalry were being used for Elf Heavy Cavalry).
The standard arm was drilled out to take 1.6mm brass rod, as was the standard.
The Heavy Infantry set does not include a left hand standard bearer sword arm, so I used one from the standard infantry set.

The first two ranks.

Getting close to an Oathmark mini army (heavy infantry and a King/Queen character are very points heavy). The mini-army is the Queen and nineteen heavy infantry warriors.

Just one rank to go.

Oathmark Human Heavy Infantry

North Star have recently released the latest box set (and metal characters) for Oathmark - Human Heavy Infantry.

The plastic box set builds 30 figures.
There are six sprues in the box, each sprue builds five figures.
Heavy Infantry only have hand weapon and shield or two handed weapon options. The armour is plate reinforcement over leather or heavy cloth.
There is a standard bearer option but no musician. There are also five of the rectangular Oathmark Human shields, these ones show a little wear and tear.
Hand weapons include one mace, two axes, three swords and one Hero sword.
Two handed weapons include two maces, two axes and one sword.
There are only ten heads and there are not many duplicates to make the bulk of your amy similar. However, there is one head similar to the hero with the closed helmet on the Human Infantry sprue, so I will be using that for the bulk of my force.

North Star Cultists III for Frostgrave

The latest addition to the North Star range of plastic figures for Frostgrave is Cultists III. This adds another selection of cultist figures, lighter armoured than Cultists I and Cultists II.

Standard North Star box (though it feels a bit more flimsy).
The box contains four sprues, each of which builds five figures.
There are heads and hands to build undead out of the figures as well.
There is one particular weapon of note, a chainsaw!
That will be an entertaining add on.

Without the chainsaw, these are going to supply some lighter troops for my Necromancer's army, and possibly some melee troops for my Converted one as well.

Scarlett and Browne, a very British Post-Apocalypse

Jonathan Stroud (also the author of Lockwood and Co - made into a single season on Netflix) has just completed a British Post-Apocalypse trilogy.

After an undefined Great Cataclysm, Britain is divided into seven Kingdoms. Most of the people live in the highly regulated Surviving Towns, under the watchful eye of the Faith Houses who ensure orthodoxy, both behavoral and genetic.

The map of Britain is both familiar and different. Between the Surviving Towns are the wilds, infested with a whole range of nasty and deadly fauna, including The Tainted (think Rage Infected).

Scarlett McCain is a young robber, who specialises in robbing banks, and occasionally Faith Houses. She is deadly accurate with a revolver and has no hesitation in using it.

Her life changes after she finds a crashed bus with a single survivor, a teenaged boy.
The figure is from the Gunfighters II by Great Escape Games with a Stargrave head.

I still have to find a suitable figure for Albert Browne. I am hoping the Wargames Atlantic Male Survivors set will provide something suitable.

A Faith House Operative (book two).
The body is from the Great Escape Games' Dead Man's Hand Gunfighters set, the arms are from the Frostgrave Wizards set and the head is from the Stargrave Crew set.

The bowler hat seems to be the official headgear, occasionally colour coded for your convenience.

Two Town militia, in their official bowler hats and (when painted) tweed jackets.
More Dead Man's Hand Gunfighters.

Oathmark Revenant Infantry - two ranks of Revenants with sword and shield

So having completed one rank of Revenant with two handed weapons, it was time to build two ranks with hand weapons and shields.

One of them is going to be a Champion, so was built with the officer arm and was given some bits of personal equipment from various Frostgrave sprues.

The bases have been milliputted and they have been undercoated.

Oathmark Revenant Champion - Painted

So this Revenant Champion was definitely undercoated in February 2023. At some point the haft of the two handed mace got a coat of Citadel Dryad Bark.

But it skulked in the figure case unloved and unregarded like the Revenant infantry.

And now finally it is painted.

The figure is based on a Renedra 25mm diameter plastic base, the figure's puddle base is blended into the base with Milliput. Woodland Scenics fine cinder ballast was added over PVA glue.
The flesh is Citadel Rakarth Flesh. The hair, leggings and the cloak are Vallejo Black Grey. The skirt is a mix of Vallejo Black Grey and Citadel Dryad Bark.
The haft of the mace and the shoes are Citadel Dryad Bark.
The metal work (chest plate, mace head, leg guards, wrist guard and brooch) were painted with MIG Black Green.
The skin was shaded with Citadel Seraphim Sepia.
The metalwork was weathered with Citadel Nihilakh Oxide.
Brown areas were shaded with Citadel Agrax Earthshade. The grey areas were shaded with Citadel Nuln Oil.
The fur collar was shaded with both Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil.
The jewel was painted with Army Painter Stone Golem, and then Citadel Warpstone Glow.
