Crooked Dice Small Piles of Skulls

Crooked Dice have released various sets of skull piles, cast in resin.

These are the Small Skull Piles. They are about 20mm in diameter and these ones have been based on Renedra 30mm circular bases.

The area between the edge of the pile and the edge of the base was coated with PVA and Woodland Scenics Fine Cinder ballast applied.

They were sprayed with Citadel Corax White.
The outside of the bases were painted with Humbrol 29 Dark Earth. Any splashes were then covered with Humbrol 34 White.
A Citadel Agrax Earthshade wash was followed by a Citadel Nuln Oil wash (the former was concentrated in the gaps, the latter overall).
Once dry, they were dry brushed with Citadel Tyrant Bone followed by Citadel Terminatus Stone.

They will be used as various markers.

Blotz Spawning Pool in the Frozen City

The previous build of the Blotz Spawning Pool was for Ghost Archipelago. This one is for Frostgrave.

Skeletons move past the crumbling ceremonial pool, not caring what might have dislodged the stones...

The Blotz 28mm Spawning Pool comes as one medium sized sheet of MDF. It has gone up £1.00 since I bought the last one, also at SELWG.

I decided this should have a story to it. I decided that it would still be full of frozen water, perhaps with broken ice indicating Something had emerged from the inky depths.

To do that, before assembling the pieces, I used a razor saw to cut one corner off of the cap stones piece  that make up the top of the walls, separating the two stones. I also cut away some of the stones that would have been beneath the capstones.

This time I had less difficulty assembling the inner and outer walls, I cannot see any difference in the layout, maybe I was paying more attention.

The edges of the cap stones were bevelled with a file to show age and wear.

Once the main part was assembled, I took a suitably sized Products for Wargamers Scatter MDF base and  bevelled the edges with a file (a round file makes a more natural looking slope). The body of the pool was then glued on top, with sufficient surrounding space to add some additional flag stone fragments made from bits of MDF. The pieces of MDF removed from the walls was then added on top, together with the two separate cap stones.

Oathmark skeletons move past the pool, their unlike not disturbing any lurkers.

Detail of the stones, was it the movement of the ice within, or has something escaped the frozen pool?

Between the flagstones and on the other parts of the exposed base, Woodland Scenics cinder ballast was sprinkled over PVA glue.

The whole thing was first sprayed with Halford's Grey Primer, followed by Citadel Chaos Black spray. The whole thing was then brush painted with watered down Army Painter black paint to seal the PVA and fill in where the spray might have missed.

The stones were dry brushed first with a mix of Vallejo Black Grey and Army painter Black, followed by lighter dry brushing of Black Grey, then Black Grey mixed with Vallejo London grey and finally a dry brush of Citadel terminates Stone.

It was then washed with Citadel Nuln Oil.

The pool itself has still to be painted.

More things to trip over...

So having made one base of scenery using the Zinge Industries concrete blocks, I decided I should build a couple more.
The bases are from the Products for Wargamers scatter terrain MDF bases.
The same procedure was followed , though some additional types of Gamers Grass tufts were used.

The Container

Containers are everywhere. Some of them are very large, 45 feet long. Others are as small as 10 foot long.

This is one of the smaller ones, from Crooked Dice.
It is on an MDF base  from Products for Warmers.
It was undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black followed by Citadel Death Guard Green.
The numbers and icon are from the Rubicon T34 decal set.

More Industrial Scenery

Last year I bought the Crooked Dice Pump and Tank Set.

I have been playing around with it, trying to get something multi-purpose out of it (more later on that), but I did think that a cut off pipe with a valve would make a nice simple piece of scatter terrain.

I chose to base it on a Renedra 30mm base as that would give a small amount of space for some grass and stuff. On that I glued a Renedra 20mm base. This would be textured with Citadel Typhus Corrosion to appear as a concrete base.
I drilled the valve and the wheel with a 0.8mm hole and used a piece of 0.8mm brass rod to pin the wheel to the valve.

The 20mm base was painted with Citadel Typhus Corrosion to give it some texture.

It was then sprayed with Citadel Chaos Black. The concrete was painted with Citadel Rakash Flesh and the pipe with Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey. It was dry brushed with a mix of Citadel Mechanicum Standard Grey and Humbrol 34 White. Everything was then dry brushed with Citadel Terminatus Stone. Rusty dribbles are original Citadel Flesh Wash. The whole thing was then shaded with Citadel Nuln Oil.

More Scenery For WWX

So a couple of pieces of scenery for Western gaming Wild West Exodus in particular.

The first is a couple of Cacti from the TTCombat Western Accessories pack.
They are on a laser cut Products For Wargamers  Scatter Terrain MDF base (the edges of which were filed to a slope).  Woodland Scenics fine ballast over PVA plus two left over bits of Greenstuff for rocks.
Another piece of terrain, this time a rock cube - natural or manufactured for nefarious motives - you decide.

It offers some hard cover on the battlefield.

Strange Idol

The mysterious idol was found during the Office of Naval Intelligence raids on Innsmouth during the late 'twenties.
The idol is by Crooked Dice and is cast in three pieces (base, plinth and statue).
The eyes were masked with a piece of blue-tack. The statue was sprayed with Plastic-Kote Rust effect spray. It was then sprayed with Humbrol Desert Tan. The statue was then washed with Citadel Nuln Oil followed by Citadel Agrax Earthshade.
Finally it was dry brushed with Citadel Terminatus Stone.
The eyes were first painted with Humbrol White. The part where it eye contacts the eyelids was washed with Citadel Coellia Greenshade. Finally it was washed with Citadel Hex Wraith Flame.
